Photos from a busy week!

Below are photos from my very eventful week as I had both my mom and cousins from Germany in town. I will spend my last few days in Roma working with the Seesters, crossing a few more things off my local sightseeing to do list and packing (eeeekkkkk). I head to Poland on Friday morning and I fly back to the States on Sunday and begin the next chapter of this new and exciting life. I am so happy I will have the chance to see so many friends back in Seattle and Arizona shortly. I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving and a great few days off work!

Venezia!

It's official: Venice rivals Cinque Terre for the coolest Italian experience! My mom and I had such a fantastic time exploring this one of a kind city. We were like two giddy school girls, giggling and chatting, buying souvenirs, drinking wine and eating pizza and gelato all day. We took our time walking from one end of the city to the other, getting lost and loving every minute!

My parents celebrate their 30th wedding anniversary on Monday, my mom and I will go to a nice dinner to celebrate. Sorry you are missing out, dad!! Must be tough being at work as we drink wine and feast in your honor ;  )

Hard to believe I will be back in the States in less than two weeks! I continue to be amazed by God's faithfulness and love for me. He has blessed me with so much more than I ever could have imagined possible and my dreams are His love letters to me. Thank you, Lord for another beautiful day!

This is from my mom's first night in Roma- thank you Diana for the treat!!

HG3 Part 1

I can't really put into words how excited I was upon learning last month that the third Hunger Games movie (part 1) would be showing in Roma on opening weekend. Normally, American movies arrive in Europe about two months after they open in the US, so knowing I wouldn't have to wait until December to see my favorite franchise of all time was pretty cool! I thought for sure the movie would be showing at the Barberini, Roma's biggest theater in the city center (I have been seeing Katniss posters all over town, they are hyping it like crazy) but to my surprise it was only being shown in verse original (what the Italians call it) at the Lux. I had no idea how to get to the Lux (nor had I heard of it), it is in a completely unknown and far off part of town, but I wasn't going to let that little hiccup stop me! I mapped out my subway route (which I wasn't entirely confident I could navigate) but by the time I got on my third train transfer, I knew I was heading in the right direction, as every english speaking teeny bopper in Roma was heading to this movie! I had no idea how to get to the theater once I hopped off the train, so naturally I struck up a conversation with the teeny boppers and asked if I could follow them. I put all pride aside, I wasn't taking a chance on getting lost and missing my big night! They were cool with this and let me tag along, three girls even asked me what grade I was in- ummm, I was in junior high like you guys fifteen years ago!! (I had my hair up and no makeup on, wearing a sweatshirt and Ugg boots, so I guess I looked like a kid. I was acting like one too with how excited I was). I bought my popcorn, soda and candy, settled in and grinned like an idiot for about an hour until smack in the middle of the movie, they turn on the lights and start selling concessions! It was crazy, I have never seen anything like this before. I was stunned and started complaining- the girl next to me had to explain an intermission during a movie is normal in Italy....it only lasted about five minutes and it did ruin the scene, I am so happy they don't do this in America! Once it was over, I followed the teeny boppers back to the subway and went home. Overall, I was quite happy with the movie and cannot wait to see the final installment of the franchise next year. I do have to admit, I dearly missed my HG partner in crime, Miss Catie Beck and was thinking of her all day : )

My sweet and beautiful mother arrived in Roma this afternoon, we had a fantastic dinner and are heading to bed early for an eventful Sunday in Venice. I love my mom so much and am thrilled I have the opportunity to show her the life I have created here. The Seesters are super excited to meet her too, they kept asking me all month when she was coming.

Happy weekend and Thanksgiving week to all my friends and family!

Five Towns

I visited all five of the Cinque Terre towns on Thursday and I now know why this place is so hyped. It was simply magical!! By far the coolest place I have been on my European journey. I realize I say that about most places I go : ) but truly, Cinque Terre was absolutely sensational. I knew it was my kinda place when as I was ordering breakfast at 10am, the locals were already drinking wine ; ) I mean, hello- what is not to love about that?!?! It was the PERFECT day- around 70 degrees and I had the chance to hike to a few of the towns instead of taking the regional train, which was the best and most intense workout of my life. The fact that I was in Ugg boots and lugging around a 13lb purse only made this trek easier, right?! Good thing I was prepared, lol. There is not a whole lot to do in each town, they mainly consist of hotels, churches, bars, restaurants, tourist shops and such, but the scenery is by far the most exquisite attraction and the parks and beach leave little time for much else. I am glad I was able to visit in the off season, there is no doubt the towns must be jammed packed during the summer months (not many tourists were there on Thursday). I am so thrilled I had the chance to experience this unique area of Italy and the day ended with a breathtaking sunset. I continue to be amazed and humbled by God's glorious creation, which is so beyond any picture I could take or description I could write.
